Who we are
KickStart English Ltd ("KickStart English", "we", "us") is a private limited company registered in England and Wales (Companies House no. 13086806). We deliver online English-language courses, primarily to learners based in Europe. Our website is kickstart-english.co.uk.
What this policy covers
This policy describes the personal data we collect when you enrol in one of our courses, attend our online lessons, or contact us for support. It also describes how that data flows through the third-party services we use to deliver lessons — including the Zoom platform and our internal lesson-administration system.
What we collect
- Account details — your name, email address, preferred language, and the course / cohort you are enrolled in.
- Lesson attendance — when you join and leave each scheduled Zoom lesson, the meeting your attendance was recorded against, and the teacher who delivered it.
- Lesson and progress notes — homework submissions, teacher feedback, and progress markers your teacher records during the course.
- Payment metadata — invoice records and payment confirmation (we do not store full payment-card numbers; payment processing is handled by Stripe).
- Support correspondence — emails or messages you send us, retained while the matter is open and for a reasonable period thereafter.
Why we collect it
We collect this data to deliver the course you have enrolled in, to keep accurate records of attendance and progress, to issue invoices and process payments, to communicate with you about your enrolment, and to comply with our legal and tax obligations as a UK-registered company.
How attendance is recorded
When you join a scheduled Zoom lesson, Zoom notifies our internal lesson-administration system that the meeting started, ended, and which participants joined and left. We use this information solely to populate the attendance record for that lesson against your enrolment. Where Zoom provides your registered email address with the join event, we match it to your enrolment record so the attendance is correctly attributed.
Who we share it with
We share personal data only with the third-party services that are necessary to operate our courses: Zoom (video lessons), Stripe (payments), Supabase (database hosting), Vercel (web hosting), Telegram (course communications), and Google (email and document storage). Each is bound by its own privacy commitments and processes data on our behalf as a sub-processor.
We do not sell personal data and we do not share it with advertisers or analytics third parties beyond what is needed to operate the courses.
How long we keep it
We keep enrolment records, attendance, and progress data for the duration of your course and for up to seven years afterwards to comply with UK accounting and tax requirements. Support correspondence is retained for up to two years from the date of last contact. Where you exercise your right to deletion, we will anonymise rather than delete records that we are legally required to retain, removing your personal identifiers while preserving the underlying anonymised history.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to request correction or deletion, to object to or restrict our processing, to receive a portable copy of your data, and to withdraw consent for any processing that relies on consent. To exercise any of these rights, email us at hello@kickstart-english.co.uk. We will respond within 30 days.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal data, you have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date below records the most recent change.
